Oriental Petrochemicals Corporation (OPC) ) started production in 2001 as the first polypropylene facility in Africa. Recognizing OPC’s true potential, Carbon Holdings took ownership of the company in 2013 and embarked on a strategic, technical, and commercial restructuring program to transform OPC into a globally competitive petrochemicals producer. The first two years after the acquisition saw Carbon Holdings streamline operations to successfully resolve feedstock shortages and de-bottleneck production, which has led OPC to reach a production capacity of 225,000 mtpa, up from 160,000 mtpa. In tandem, Carbon Holdings invested heavily in the facility’s employees, putting in place training programs to encourage workers to develop their skills, which has resulted in strong growth and high employee retention levels. Today, OPC manufactures and markets its products in Egypt, and exports to more than 20 countries in Africa, Europe, Asia, and The Americas.
